FLCL (pronounced “Fooly Cooly” or “Furi Kuri” in Japanese) season three – FLCL: Alternative will premiere on Adult Swim USA’s Toonami programming block on Saturday 8th September at 11.30pm ET/PT, FLCL season two – FLCL: Progressive aired on Adult Swim USA during June and July this year. FLCL: Alternative is the sequel to the Japanese anime short-series FLCL and also FLCL Progressive, the new season follows the misadventures of a 17-year-old girl named Kana, a high school student who spends her free time hanging out with her friends – Mossan, Hijiri, and Pets. Kana’s life was rather mundane until the day a Mecha fell from the sky, along with a strange woman named Haruko. Haruko’s plans for Kana and her friends involve the force known as “ATOMSK”. Kana will have to risk everything to decide whether she should help, but she doesn’t really have a choice. Both FLCL: Alternative and FLCL: Progressive are co-produced by anime studio – Production I.G (the same studio behind the original FLCL series) and Adult Swim.

On 31st March this year, Toonami unexpectedly premiered the first episode of FLCL Alternative in a sneak preview in Japanese audio with English subtitles as part of this year’s Japanese dub April Fools’ Day prank.

Guest Stars And Cultural References In Recent Episodes Of Cartoon Network Shows

Over the summer, a lot of new episodes have premiered on Cartoon Network USA and it has been hard keeping up, especially as there are quite a few moments in recent episodes that are definitely worth a mention. Before Clarence ended in June, Cartoon Network aired an episode called “Video Store”, in the episode Clarence, Sumo and Jeff visit the video store to rent a movie, at the store they meet Brendon Small, the main character from Adult Swim’s (also aired on Cartoon Network UK) animated series – Home Movies, who is based on and voiced by the show’s creator of the same name. Brendon was an aspiring movie director as a child, which was the premise of the Home Movies animated series, now he’s much older and working at the video store in Clarence’s hometown of Aberdale.

Elijah Wood, who also voiced Wirt in Cartoon Network’s Over The Garden Wall has returned to the recording studio to voice a new character in Cartoon Network’s latest show – Summer Camp Island. In the show, Elijah voices Saxophone the Yeti, who made his debut in the episode “Saxophone Come Home”, in the episode, Oscar befriends Saxophone, a teenage yeti who decides to stay at Oscar’s and Hedgehog’s camp home for a while.

In one of the new episodes of The Amazing World of Gumball – “The Spinoffs” which will premiere on Cartoon Network USA tomorrow (16th July), there’s a special animated action sequence parodying the intro to the popular Japanese anime series – Cowboy Bebop called “Barcode Cowboy”, the sequence features the hardest worker in Elmore – Larry Needlemayer doing what he does best, scanning items at the checkout and delivering pizzas, but in an overly dramatic and over-the-top way. Cowboy Bebop has aired on Adult Swim numerous times since 2001, and has aired on several occasions as part of Adult Swim’s dedicated anime block – Toonami since 2012.
