New Toonami Block On Cartoon Network Taiwan

Yesterday (09/07/2016), Cartoon Network Taiwan launched their very own Toonami programming block. Toonami is Cartoon Network’s international action-animation channel brand which has recently been going through a revival, with the relaunch of the block on Adult Swim in the United States, channel launches in Southeast Asia, India and Thailand and the launch of Toonami France which has reintroduced the brand in Europe.

The new Toonami block airs every weekend at 7.30pm, with two new shows from launch – Dragon Ball Super and Xiaolin Chronicles, Kaitou Joker will also premiere in the block on Saturday 30th July. The block at the moment also features the anime Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy and the Cartoon Network Australia co-production – Exchange Student Zero. Wakfu will be added to the block from 30th July.

Cecilia Persson Appointed Cartoon Network EMEA Head Of Programming

Today (03/05/2016), Turner Broadcasting System Europe has appointed Cecilia Persson as the new Vice President for Programming and Content Strategy for Cartoon Network, Boomerang (and other associated kids channels) for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) area. Cecilia Persson will oversee programming, co-production and acquisitions across Turner’s linear and digital services. In 2004, she joined Turner as director of acquisitions, and has been promoted from vice president of acquisitions and co-productions. Previously, Cecilia Persson worked at Middle Eastern pay-tv provider Showtime (now known as Orbit Showtime Network, better known as OSN) and before that at Carlton Cinema (a defunct British movie channel which was owned by Carlton, now part of ITV plc).

Persson will report to Patricia Hidalgo, Turner EMEA’s chief content & creative officer for kids content, Patricia Hidalgo also made this statement in regards of joining programming and content production together:

“There’s never been a more important time to bring together teams that produce winning programming strategies with those that source and create the best programmes our audiences crave across all platforms.”

Toonami France Expands Distribution Into Africa

Turner Broadcasting System Europe has signed distribution deals with pay-TV providers in Africa to carry Cartoon Network’s action-animation sister channel, Toonami. Turner has made deals with Maroc Telecom in Morocco, Blueline in Madagascar and Parabole on the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius, Comores and Madagascar. Toonami France will also be carried on Gabon Telecom when their TV platform becomes available. Toonami is targeted at kids aged between 8-12, and features popular animated action programming such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and Justice League.

According to South African media news website, Media Update, Turner also has plans to distribute Toonami in English-language countries across Africa.

Pierre Branco, VP and general manager of Turner Southern Europe and Africa says:

“We are pleased with the addition of Toonami to the bouquet of channels aimed at our younger audiences, as it further diversifies our robust entertainment experience and program offering across age groups.
