Cartoon Network Africa Wins Awards At Three Different Recent Award Events For Marketing And PR

Over the last 12 months, Cartoon Network Africa has had a successful year and has walked away with awards from three different award events in the region. Cartoon Network Africa’s ‘Cartoon Network Introduces Africa’s Very Own Powerpuff Girl’ campaign has won African SABRE (Superior Achievement in Branding, Reputation & Engagement) Gold Award in the Media, Arts and Entertainment category, as well as a runner-up Certificate of Excellence in the “Marketing to Consumers (Existing Product)” category.

Cartoon Network Africa’s Powerpuff Girls art event – “The Powerpuff Girls Art Factory” also won a SABRE Certificate of Excellence in the Southern Africa Public Relations category. The channel’s anti-bullying campaign – CN Buddy Network has won two African SABRE Certificates of Excellence, one in the “Arts and Excellence” category and another in the “Cause-Related Marketing” category, this year’s campaign was fronted by Paralympian medalist, Ntando Mahlangu.

Cartoon Network Africa also won a Bronze PRISM Award at the 2018 PRISM Awards for CN Buddy Network in the “Corporate Social Responsibility” category. At the annual POPAI Awards, Turner won a POPAI Gold Award in the “Informal/Traditional Market Execution” category for its public event at the 2017 DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival.

In Africa, Burson-Marsteller is Cartoon Network’s PR consultant agency.

Cartoon Network has asked artists from all over the world to express themselves as a Powerpuff Girl in the form of an art piece. Twenty-five artists have contributed to the special art series by picturing themselves in a variety of art styles to display their inner superhero and to show their personal interpretation of what it means to be a Powerpuff Girl.

All artwork can be seen on the Powerpuff The World website: People using social media (Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr) can also participate by sharing their Powerpuff Girls artwork using the #PowerpuffTheWorld hashtag. People who contribute artwork using social media will have a chance to win Powerpuff Girls themed bags from the luxury fashion house – Moschino.

The Powerpuff Girls is among one of the first original series that was produced for Cartoon Network, the show is about three super cute but super fierce superheroines – Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, collectively known as The Powerpuff Girls and it’s their duty to save their hometown – Townsville and the world before bedtime. Cartoon Network revived the show in 2016 and has achieved high ratings on free-to-air channels in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region, broadcasting rights for the rebooted series has been picked up by various channels in different countries.

Also, earlier this year in April, Cartoon Network Africa ran a Powerpuff Girls art exhibition in Cape Town in South Africa, “The Powerpuff Girls Art Factory” exhibition featured Powerpuff Girls styled character designs produced by some of the best illustrators in South Africa.

Cartoon Network Africa Wins A SABRE Gold Award For Cartoon Network Buddy Network

Cartoon Network Africa has won an African SABRE (Superior Achievement in Branding, Reputation & Engagement) Gold Award in the Public Education category for their anti-bullying campaign – Cartoon Network Buddy Network. The initiative encourages children to be friendly to each other and report and speak out against bullying in schools. Cartoon Network Buddy Network was rolled out for the first time in Africa last year after a successful rollout in Europe.

In Africa, the campaign was developed in co-operation with Childline South Africa. Olympic gold medalist track and field sprinter, Wayde van Niekerk represented the campaign as a Buddy Network ambassador. The campaign made use of animation, video content and storytelling to inform kids about bullying and how they can put an end to it. The award was presented to Robyn De Villiers, chairman and CEO of Burson-Marsteller Africa (Cartoon Network’s PR agency for Africa) and Aude Bousseau, the marketing and PR manager of Turner Africa. Cartoon Network Africa has also won a 2017 African Excellence Award in the “Content Marketing” category for Buddy Network, the 2017 African Excellence Awards ceremony will take place on 29th June in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Cartoon Network also won an African SABRE Certificate of Excellence in the “Marketing an Existing Product to Consumers” for the relaunch of The Powerpuff Girls animated series in collaboration with jazz-electro-hip-pop musician – Toya Delazy. Toya specially produced a reworked version of The Powerpuff Girls 2016 reboot theme song for the African market and performed at the Powerpuff Girls Art Factory exhibit launch night in Cape Town, South Africa on 4th April this year.

Commenting on the awards, Pierre Branco, VP and managing director of Turner France, Portugal and Africa said:

The 2017 African SABRE Awards were held last Thursday (11/05/2017) in Marrakesh, Morocco as part of the APRA (African Public Relations Association) annual conference.
