Turner UK: Dan Fahy Named As Senior Director Of Commercial Development

It was announced today (13/07/2015) that Turner Broadcasting System Europe has hired Dan Fahy as senior director of commercial development for Turner Northern Europe (UK and Nordics).

Mr Fahy’s responsibilities will include channel carriage negotiations with TV providers (Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk etc.) for Turner’s channels which includes Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito, TNT, truTV and TCM. Also as part of his new role he will implement digital distribution strategies including VoD services, OTT (Over The Top) and other non-linear platforms. He will also work alongside both Turner’s UK and Scandinavian teams for commercial strategy to maximise revenue in both sub-regions.

Dan Fahy’s Prior Experience

Prior to his hiring at Turner, he worked at UKTV in a similar role handling channel distribution with providers and was involved in UKTV’s digital service known as UKTV Play. He will report to Ian McDonough, senior VP and managing director for Turner Northern Europe.

Ian McDonough made this statement regarding Mr Fahy’s new role:

“In addition to growing revenues across existing channels, this critical role will evaluate opportunities presented by new technologies and distribution partners, including wireless and interactive service providers.”


Cartoon Network To Preview We Bare Bears At The Annecy Animation Festival

This week (15/06/2015-20/06/2015) is the Annecy Animation Festival in France, and as usual Cartoon Network is attending the festival. This week, they will debut their new We Bare Bears animated series at the festival.

On Thursday 18th June, Cartoon Network representatives will host a series of interviews with artists to attract new talent for future animation projects and for current productions. During the Annecy Animation Festival, Cartoon Network will also run two special panel events: Cartoon Network: From Short to Series and The Making of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, on Thursday 18th June and Friday 19th June.

Cartoon Network: From Short to Series panel event will give festival visitors a peek inside the Cartoon Network Artists Programme, as well as an exclusive first look at We Bare Bears. We Bare Bears will debut on Cartoon Network USA in July 2015, followed by Cartoon Network feeds in the Europe, Middle East and Africa area from September 2015.

The From Short to Series panel will be moderated by Rob Sorcher, chief content officer of Cartoon Network Studios and it will feature:

– Elizabeth Ito, director and storyboard artist on Adventure Time and creator of the brand new short Welcome to My Life.
– George Gendi, storyboard artist on The Amazing World of Gumball and creator of the brand new pilot Apple & Onion.
– Daniel Chong, creator of We Bare Bears.
– The Making of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time panel presents an opportunity to hear from the creative and production team behind the show.

The panel also will include recent guest-directed shorts, including the Annecy-nominated Food Chain, and an exclusive showing of a new episode by guest director Kirsten Lepore which is completely made in stop-motion animation.

Cartoon Network EMEA’s New Website Design Rollout Continues

After a pause of a few months, rollout of the new website design for Cartoon Network feeds in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region has continued. Over the last couple of weeks, Cartoon Network Russia has new the website design as well as Cartoon Network France, Cartoon Network Poland and the website for Cartoon Network Spain. This now leaves Cartoon Network Germany, Cartoon Network Italy, Cartoon Network Arabia and Cartoon Network UK & Ireland to change to the new website design.

The website design originated from DMT Latin America, a division of Turner Broadcasting System responsible for developing websites for the company in the Latin American market and is also used on the Latin American Cartoon Network websites. The website design was rolled out to smaller markets first, starting with Portugal and several Nordic and Eastern Europe countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
