Turner Northern Europe Senior Vice President Pierre Branco Adds Middle East Responsibilities

Today (5th February), Turner Broadcasting System Europe has announced that they’ve restructured their regional management, Pierre Branco – the Senior Vice President of Turner Northern Europe (UK and Nordics) will have additional responsiblities over the MENAT (Middle East, North Africa and Turkey, also includes Cyprus and Greece) region from 1st April. In addition to Turner’s channels and services in the UK and Scandinavia such as Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito and the Toonix streaming service, Pierre will also have responsibility over Turner’s channels in the MENAT region which will include channels such as Cartoon Network MENA, Boomerang MENA, Cartoon Network Turkey, Boomerang Turkey, TCM MENA and the distribution of CNN International in the region. He will continue to report to Turner EMEA’s president Giorgio Stock.

In a statement about Pierre’s new additional responsibilities, Giorgio Stock said: “Pierre’s ability to bring fresh impetus and new thinking to our business has been proven across hugely diverse markets. Together with our talented regional management team, he will now help further our vision for Turner in MENAT to deliver outstanding branded destinations to our fans across the region.”

Pierre became SVP of Turner Northern Europe in 2017, before 2017, he was general manager of Turner France, Portugal and Africa. Pierre Branco replaces Tarek Mounir, who worked for Turner’s MENAT operations for eight years as commercial director and then general manager, during his time he launched localised premium versions of Cartoon Network and Boomerang for the MENA region replacing distribution of Cartoon Network Africa and Boomerang Africa in the region. He also developed a local content strategy including the animated show Mansour, he had a role in establishing Cartoon Network Studios Arabia and was also involved in the Cartoon Network Zone theme park deal with IMG Worlds of Adventure. Tarek will now be working for music streaming service – Deezer from April.

Turner – the owners of the classic (both original and revived) animation channel – Boomerang has acquired the broadcasting rights to the new Mr. Magoo animated series for various countries in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). The new show will air on Boomerang in France (which also covers French speaking Africa), Boomerang Africa (English), Boomerang MENA (Middle East and North Africa), Boomerang Central Eastern Europe (various Central and Eastern European countries including Germany, Poland, Hungary, Netherlands etc.).

Mr. Magoo is animated by French animation studio – Xilam, the same animation studio behind the popular Oggy and the Cockroaches and Zig and Sharko. Mr Magoo was originally commissioned by France Télévisions, with Cartoon Network Asia-Pacific already owning the broadcasting rights to the new show in the Asia-Pacific region. The new series is currently in production and the show’s initial run will consist of 78 episodes each with a runtime of seven minutes.

The new series follows the adventures of Mr. Magoo, a friendly elderly man who often gets into all-sorts of mishaps due to his poor eyesight and as a result often mistakes what he sees. A disaster is waiting to happen every time he loses his glasses, although he’s oblivious to what’s actually happening, he often escapes unharmed. According to the description of the new series, Mr Magoo always ends up ruining the crazy plans of a megalomaniac super genius hamster named Fizz.

Cartoon Network VOD Service Launches On Cosmote TV In Greece On 1st November: Cartoon Network Returns To Greece

Greek telecoms company – OTE will launching a Cartoon Network VOD (video on-demand) service on its Cosmote TV platform, the new service will feature episodes of Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, We Bare Bears and many more. Cartoon Network VOD will launch in Greece on Thursday 1st November. In addition to Cartoon Network VOD, two other Turner properties have already launched on Cosmote TV on 1st October – news channel – CNN International and classic movies channel – TCM. TCM will be upgraded to a HD feed from January 2019. Boomerang MENA (Middle East and North Africa) is already available as a channel in Greece on pay-TV operator – Nova but not on Cosmote. Cartoon Network exited the Greek market in 2013 after its removal on the Nova platform (but not Boomerang), before 2013, Greece received the ex pan-European feed, Cartoon Network Africa (aka “Cartoon Network HQ” after the website domain as promoted on the channel). In neighboring Greek speaking Cyprus, both Cartoon Network MENA and Boomerang MENA are available.

Commenting on the launch of the Cartoon Network VOD service and the recent addition of CNN and TCM, Cosmote TV Executive Director Dimitris Michalakis said: “We constantly enrich our program through exclusive agreements with top studios and with new channels, some of which are own operated and branding COSMOTE TV channels.
