Cartoon Network Contributes $30 Million To Obama’s STEM Initiative

Over the weekend, President Obama announced that the USA government is committed to STEM (science, technology, engineering & mathematics) as part of the elementary school curriculum. As part of the plan, Cartoon Network will be supporting the Computer Science for All Initiative by offering $30 million to teaching children the basics of computer programming. Cartoon Network is the only private sector supporter of the President’s new STEM initiative that is involved with the child demographic.

Cartoon Network has already partnered with MIT’s (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) by offering programming tutorials using characters from We Bare Bears using the easy to learn programming language – Scratch.

Christina Miller, president and general manager of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang, made this statement about Cartoon Network’s programming initiative:

“This generation of kids is incredibly creative and inventive, and we’re inspired by them every day. Computer literacy and learning to code are vitally important skills that foster creativity and self-expression. With this long-term commitment, we will leverage our brands and platforms to drive awareness for coding and provide access to the necessary tools to kids everywhere. The result, we hope, is that we help inspire the next generation as much as they inspire us.”
